We're looking for aLathe & Hone Aerospace Operatorto join our growing aerospace manufacturing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical aerospace components in a quality-driven environment where your skills and attention to detail will make a real impact.

What You'll Be Doing

\n

As a Lathe & Hone Aerospace Operator, you'll be responsible for machining and refurbishing precision aerospace components, ensuring every part meets stringent industry standards and customer specifications.

\n

Your duties will include:

\n
    \n
  • Setting up and operatingColchester lathesandSunnen honing equipment
  • \n
  • Machining aerospace components to extremely tight tolerances
  • \n
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • \n
  • Selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting parameters, and honing stones
  • \n
\n

Carrying out in-process and final inspections using:

\n
    \n
  • Micrometers
  • \n
  • Vernier calipers
  • \n
  • Bore gauges
  • \n
  • Dial indicators
  • \n
  • CMM equipment (where applicable)
  • \n
\n
    \n
  • Monitoring machine performance and making adjustments to maintain quality standards
  • \n
  • Deburring, cleaning, and finishing components
  • \n
  • Completing production and quality documentation accurately
  • \n
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity
  • \n
  • Maintaining a safe and compliant working environment
  • \n

What We're Looking For

\n

Essential Experience

\n
    \n
  • Previous experience operatingColchester lathesandSunnen honing machines
  • \n
  • Background in precision engineering, aerospace, or high-specification manufacturing
  • \n
  • Ability to work confidently to tight tolerances, often within microns
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and metal-cutting processes
  • \n
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • \n
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment
  • \n
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • \n
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • \n
\n

Desirable Experience

\n
    \n
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience
  • \n
  • Knowledge of AS9100 quality standards
  • \n
  • Experience working with aerospace materials including:
  • \n
      \n
    • Titanium
    • \n
    • Inconel
    • \n
    • Stainless Steel
    • \n
    • Aluminium Alloys
    • \n
    \n
\n

Qualifications

\n
    \n
  • Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Machining
  • \n
  • Aerospace-related qualifications or experience would be advantageous
  • \n
\n
