Construction NVQ Assessor
Job Description
Salary: £35,000+ depending on experience, qualifications and capabilityLocation: Remote / Home-Based with planned travel if deemed necessaryContract: Full-time, Permanent
\nSchool Staffing Solutions are working with a growing construction work force development pathway, training and vocational assessment provider delivering fully funded industry-focused training and GQA-accredited NVQ qualifications across the UK.
\nDue to significant growth in the NVQ provision, we are looking to recruit an experienced Construction NVQ Assessor to join our team.
\nThis is a predominantly remote role. We are focused on quality, learner progression and outcomes rather than where the assessor is physically based. Travel will be required for workplace observations and site visits where deemed necessary of remote assessing isn't possible.
\nThe Role
\nThe successful candidate will manage a caseload of construction NVQ learners from registration through to completion.
\nKey responsibilities will include:
\n- \n
- Managing an allocated caseload of NVQ learners. \n
- Conducting initial assessments and assessment planning. \n
- Supporting learners to understand and gather appropriate workplace evidence. \n
- Reviewing and assessing portfolios against qualification requirements. \n
- Conducting professional discussions and other appropriate assessment activities. \n
- Carrying out workplace observations and site visits where required. \n
- Providing clear and constructive feedback to learners. \n
- Maintaining accurate and timely assessment records. \n
- Ensuring learner portfolios progress efficiently towards completion. \n
- Using electronic portfolio and remote assessment systems. \n
- Working closely with CSW's existing assessor and IQA team. \n
- Ensuring assessment decisions meet GQA and qualification requirements. \n
- Maintaining high standards of assessment quality, compliance and learner support. \n
IQA Responsibilities
\nIdeally, the successful candidate will also be IQA qualified and experienced. An existing IQA qualification is highly desirable but is not essential for an otherwise strong candidate.
\nCurrent NVQ Provision
\nCSW currently delivers or is approved to deliver GQA construction NVQs across:
\nLevel 2
\n- \n
- Plastering \n
- Trowel Occupations / Bricklaying \n
- Wood Occupations \n
- Interior Systems / Drylining \n
- Decorative Finishing / Painting & Decorating \n
- Wall and Floor Tiling \n
- Fitted Interiors \n
- Associated Industrial Services Occupations - Passive Fire Protection \n
Level 3
\n- \n
- Plastering \n
- Trowel Occupations / Bricklaying \n
- Wood Occupations \n
- Interior Systems \n
- Decorative Finishing / Painting & Decorating \n
- Wall and Floor Tiling \n
- Occupational Work Supervision \n
We are not looking for somebody who necessarily holds individual trade qualifications across every area listed above.
\nThe ideal candidate will be an experienced construction NVQ assessor with broad construction knowledge and sufficient occupational competence to assess across multiple areas of our provision.
\nCandidates with experience or qualifications covering several construction occupations are particularly welcome, but we recognise that an individual covering every qualification would be unusual and this is not an essential requirement.
\nEssential Requirements
\nCandidates should have:
\n- \n
- A recognised assessor qualification such as A1, CAVA or equivalent. \n
- Relevant construction industry experience and strong occupational competence. \n
- Experience assessing construction NVQs or other competence-based construction qualifications. \n
- The ability and confidence to assess across appropriate areas of construction provision, subject to approval of occupational competence. \n
- A sound understanding of workplace evidence and competence-based assessment. \n
- The ability to independently manage an active learner caseload. \n
- Strong organisation and record-keeping skills. \n
- Confidence communicating with experienced tradespeople and employers. \n
- The ability to work effectively remotely and manage their own workload. \n
- Willingness to travel for workplace observations and learner visits when required. \n
- A full UK driving licence and access to suitable transport. \n
Highly Desirable
\n- \n
- Broad construction experience spanning multiple trades or occupations. \n
- IQA qualification such as V1, Level 4 IQA or equivalent. \n
- Experience conducting interim and final IQA reviews of other assessors' portfolios. \n
- Previous experience working with GQA Qualifications. \n
- Experience using Quals Direct or similar electronic portfolio systems. \n
- Experience managing substantial construction NVQ caseloads. \n
- Passive Fire Protection occupational and/or assessment competence. \n
- Occupational Work Supervision assessment competence. \n
The Person We Are Looking For
\nTechnical qualifications are important, but we are particularly interested in somebody who is:
\n- \n
- Reliable and capable of working independently. \n
- Comfortable being accountable for their own caseload. \n
- Consistent and objective in their assessment decisions. \n
- Able to maintain quality while managing significant learner volumes. \n
- Comfortable working within an established assessment and quality system. \n
- Practical in their approach to assessment and learner support. \n
- Interested in developing with CSW as our NVQ provision continues to grow. \n
