Job Description

Plant Manager

\n

Circa £45,000

\n

Edinburgh

\n

MC Technical Recruitment is currently looking to recruit a Plant Manager on behalf of a UK-based anaerobic digestion (AD) operations and maintenance specialist, to be based at their site in Haddington.

\n

This role will involve taking full responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of a biogas plant. This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role — you'll be the senior person on-site, managing a small operational team while staying close to the process itself, and reporting directly to senior management. The plant operates 24/7, so some out-of-hours and shift work will be required.

\n

As a Plant Manager, you will be responsible for:

\n
    \n
  • Managing and developing a small team of plant operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • \n
  • Directing and supervising maintenance contractors on-site
  • \n
  • Running regular safety training to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
  • \n
  • Acting as the senior on-site presence, available for hands-on operational work when required
  • \n
  • Monitoring and optimising process conditions to maximise biogas production and energy output while maintaining system integrity
  • \n
  • Coordinating maintenance activities, including mechanical repairs, to minimise downtime
  • \n
  • Overseeing inventory of equipment parts and supplies needed for ongoing plant operation and maintenance
  • \n
  • Developing and maintaining plant procedures, operating manuals, and site documentation
  • \n
  • Working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems to manage day-to-day operations
  • \n
  • Other duties as required
  • \n
\n

To be considered for this role you should have:

\n
    \n
  • A relevant technical qualification — ideally degree-level in chemical or mechanical engineering, or chemistry
  • \n
  • Experience managing or supervising process plant operations in a process industry or utility environment
  • \n
  • Strong mechanical knowledge to understand complex equipment systems and support troubleshooting
  • \n
  • Comfortable working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems
  • \n
  • Strong relationship-building skills — with contractors, clients, and regulators alike
  • \n
  • Solid understanding of workplace Health & Safety and environmental regulations (further training provided)
  • \n
  • Direct experience in anaerobic digestion or biogas would be an advantage, though not essential — full training is given
  • \n
  • Experience with environmental compliance and regulatory liaison would also be beneficial
  • \n
\n

This is an exciting opportunity to join a lean, hands-on operation with strong technical backing from a wider international group
