Position PurposeDrivers in food and food service delivery play an essential part in the nation's food supply chain. They ensure that products reach customers on time and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our organization and fostering strong relationships with clients.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a tractor-trailer or straight truck for local, intrastate, and interstate routes, ensuring timely delivery and unloading of food and related products while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Engage professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, providing accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
- Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to support the company’s objectives.
- Conduct all necessary safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections of the vehicle and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations, addressing any safety issues promptly.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies, reporting any safety hazards immediately.
- Inspect trailers to ensure freight is loaded and secured properly, performing item counts and verifying customer invoices.
- Move the tractor to the loading dock and connect preloaded trailers as required.
- Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are secured at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork at the end of the shift.
- Maintain daily records and comply with hours of service regulations, following DOT, state, and company policies.
- Uphold safety standards and guidelines for freight handling throughout the delivery process.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
- High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
- 6 months to 1 year of commercial driving experience.
- Experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
- Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
- Experience with handheld point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
- Background in customer service-related roles.
