Position Overview and Qualifications

The Medical Technologist ASCP Reg. is responsible for executing pre-analytic testing tasks, which encompass clerical functions, data entry, specimen collection, and processing. This role involves conducting waived, moderate complexity, and high complexity tests on blood and body fluids as outlined by CLIA 1988. Additionally, the position includes post-analytic duties such as reporting test results, verifying findings, investigating unexpected results, and ensuring quality control. Responsibilities also include:

  • Managing inventory of supplies and reagents.
  • Maintaining non-analytic equipment like refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment and demonstrating professional conduct.
  • Participating in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluating new testing methodologies and instrumentation.
  • Managing laboratory data and correlating abnormal results with pathological conditions to assess validity and determine the need for follow-up tests.
  • Teaching theory and procedures to clinical laboratory sciences students.
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of LTA, CLT, MLT, MT non-Reg., and MT Reg. staff.



Shift: 8 PM - 6:30 AM, weekdays, with rotating weekends as necessary

Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field, or a bachelor's degree with certification in a sub-specialty area, or being 'grand-fathered' as a Medical Technologist by CLIA 1988 is essential.

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist ASCP, CLS (NCA), or relevant certifications such as BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), I(ASCP), H(ASCP), or M(ASCP) is required.

  • Preferred: At least one year of experience in blood banking.

  • Hospital experience is highly desirable.
