Job Description
We are looking for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon to become part of our hospital-based practice. The perfect candidate will have completed a fellowship in sports medicine, showcasing proficiency in shoulder and knee arthroscopy, and a desire to broaden services to include elbow and hip arthroscopy. This position offers a fantastic chance to develop a sought-after sports medicine program within a well-established orthopedic team, bolstered by a robust referral network.
Compensation PackageWe offer two compensation options:
- Option 1: A base salary of $685,202* (50th percentile MGMA for recent graduates), with additional compensation based on experience, guaranteed for two years. This can transition to a wRVU production contract once targets are surpassed.
- Option 2: A base salary of $908,411* (75th percentile MGMA), guaranteed for one year, after which it will shift to a wRVU production contract.
*Note: A 5% reduction applies for those who are not yet board certified, with salary adjustments made upon certification.
Contract Benefits- Vacation: 29 days of paid time off (PTO), plus an additional 5 days of PTO when achieving 75th percentile wRVUs.
- CME/Books & Journals: 5 days of PTO and up to $5,000 for continuing medical education.
- Deferred Compensation: 457b plan allowing deferral of compensation up to the IRS limit of $23,500 annually before taxes, with no matching.
- Retirement/Savings Plan: 403b plan enabling deferral of compensation up to the IRS limit of $23,500 annually before taxes for those under 50, and $31,000 for those over 50. The organization matches dollar for dollar up to 2% of base salary.
- Relocation Assistance: $10,000 provided for moving expenses.
- Malpractice Insurance: Coverage under a claims-made policy with limits of $2,000,000 per claim and $6,000,000 aggregate.
- Health Insurance: A small premium is deducted from the physician's paycheck.
- Liquidated Damages: A non-compete clause of 70 miles for 2 years, or liquidated damages equivalent to one year’s salary.
- Bonus Opportunities: Attractive bonus incentives of up to 10% of salary.
- Medical School Loan Repayment: Up to $200,000 in loan repayment ($25,000 per year for each year of service commitment).
- Sign-On Bonus: 15% of base salary, up to $100,000, paid upon contract signing and forgiven over 2-4 years based on the bonus amount.
- Residency/Fellowship Stipend: Up to $25,000 paid in quarterly installments during the final two years of training.
Practice Location: Orthopedic Associates
Office Hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
No evening or weekend office hours.
Staffing and Call ScheduleThe practice consists of:
- 6 providers
- 8 clinical staff (CMA, LPN, Ortho Techs)
- 4 front office personnel
- 2 surgery schedulers
- Radiology and athletic training support
Call schedule is 1:4.
Patient LoadExpect to see 25-40 patients per day in the clinic, with office procedure volume varying. Typical procedures include joint injections, aspirations, pin removals, and cast applications/removals. In the hospital, you can anticipate performing 4-8 procedures daily.
Specialty AreasSports MedicineThis role provides the chance to lead and expand the sports medicine service line. The ideal candidate will perform advanced procedures such as:
- Shoulder and knee arthroscopy
- Complex ligament reconstruction and/or revision
- Meniscal debridement and repair
- Chondroplasty and cartilage restoration
- Rotator cuff/labral repairs
- Additional procedures like elbow and hip arthroscopy are encouraged.
Our organization handles a consistent volume of community trauma cases. While we are not a designated trauma center, we treat:
- Long bone, periarticular, pediatric, periprosthetic, and hand/foot fractures
- Proximal humerus and hip fractures are particularly common
- Most open fractures and complex pelvic/acetabular trauma are referred out.
There is an opportunity to perform both primary and revision joint arthroplasty, including:
- Knee, hip, and shoulder replacements
- Collaboration with a fellowship-trained arthroplasty specialist
- Elbow arthroplasty could be a valuable addition to our services.
Current services include:
- Carpal and cubital tunnel release
- Management of compression neuropathy
- Soft tissue mass excisions and thumb CMC arthroplasty
- Opportunities to expand into flexor tendon repair, Dupuytren’s contracture management, and ligamentous wrist repair.
While there are no inpatient pediatric cases, we seek to provide outpatient pediatric sports procedures, including:
- Knee and shoulder arthroscopy
- Patellofemoral realignment
- Management of chondral lesions
- Fracture care and benign lesion excision.
Most procedures are currently managed by in-house podiatrists, but orthopedic collaboration is welcomed, particularly in:
- Ankle arthroscopy
- Ligament repair/reconstruction
- Management of chondral lesions.
No spine surgeries are performed in-house; cases are referred to regional neurosurgeons, with support from on-site pain management services.
EquipmentOur office is equipped with:
- Cast saw and x-ray
In the hospital, we have:
- Computers in every room
- CPMs, patient lifts, air mats for safe patient handling
- Hana table, Wixon, Beach chair, peg board positioning devices for surgery
- Mini C-arm and standard C-arm.
Our organization has a total of 248 staffed hospital beds and serves a community of approximately 250,000 residents. Established in 1966 as a not-for-profit entity, we employ over 3,000 individuals and have a medical staff of more than 300.
We also offer teaching opportunities for medical students, residents, and advanced practitioner trainees. Staff members are eligible for Clinical Adjunct Faculty status with a local university's College of Osteopathic Medicine.
